Question

Question: Am I the only OCD person who notices discrepancies between cross stitch charts and the pictures of the stitched models included with the design?

I know some people out there stitch models for designers, are designers themselves, or are friends with designers, so I was wondering if there are any *reason*s why a model might differ from a chart? Like maybe they changed the chart after the model was stitched, or there were time constraints that made frogging and restitching impossible? Does anyone else notice this stuff or do I just have too much time on my hands?

PS I finished stitching the back of the fob last night, kinda hate how I did it, and fell asleep before I could sew everything together. I'll let you know what happens.

PPS It's 16 degrees (!!!) here on Long Island so my mom talked my brother into letting me out of biking today. Something about how he would need to make the hospital run since she's out of town. LOL. I'll go for a shorter ride tonight instead.

I can't believe you noticed that discrepency. I take the chart as a suggestion, that's how I deal with it.

I'm with your mother. I think your three months should start in March.

I've actually done some model stitching and so far I haven't stitched anything a second time to notice if there's a discrepancy between the chart and the picture.

Like you and I model stitchers are human... perhaps he/she made an error and the diesigner didn't pick up on it. Or the designer decided to make a slight change after the model was stitched. Also often during the stitching I'll get in contact with the designer about something I think is an error, I stitch it the "right" way after discussion, make a note on the chart and after its all been sent back they may not fix the chart or forget to. I think there are just too many reasons to speculate!

I always manage to find a mistake here and there. I do what I think looks good if I'm not sure.
I don't model stitch mind you so a chart is mearly a suggestion for me!
I try to do it the way it is written..If I don't my Mom makes me take it out..LOL

glad you bring this question...
In recent LHN charts I saw mistakes. the model is correct, the chart isn't. Crosses that didn't make sense, and the model is correct, like in Acorn hill door.

In UK cross stitch magazine, it goes both way, and when it's a french knot eye wrongly placed, how can't they notice?

This brings us back to the old "trust no one".... ;)

I ran up with my first MAJOR discrepancy this year. I was stitching a Twisted Sisters pattern of three pumpkins over one on linen. But the COLORS were not anywhere close to the model shot on the front. I ended up only stitching one pumpkin that someday will become a fob. Then I went out and got Vickie Clayton silks in the colors of the model and someday will stitch them over evenweave. Over one on linen is crazy. It is just too variable.

I used to watch every single stitch and stitch to the model (not the pattern), but lately I have just improvising here and there when I feel the design is not what I would have done. I bought a pattern recently because I loved the model, then found out the pattern called for way, way different color than the ones I liked. I made notes on the pattern and I am going to stitch it like the MODEL.
